Whether you’re visiting for the day or just stopping in for an hour, the New York Transit Museum offers a fun and engaging experience for the whole family. Step aboard our vintage subway cars and join us for a variety of hands-on activities. (Please note: Activity times and offerings may vary.)

TRANSIT TOTS

Transit Tots is back! Join us every Thursday and Sunday morning for an early morning hour of story-time, crafts, imaginative play, and interactive activities – all designed for our youngest transportation fans!  

Please note: This is not a drop-off program. Due to the age range of participants, each child must be accompanied by at least one adult caregiver and adults must be accompanied by a child to participate. 

Thursdays and Sundays, 9:30am-10:30am 
New York Transit Museum, Brooklyn, Education Center 
For families with children ages 18 months to 3 years 
Fee: $40 for one adult and one child, each additional adult is $20 (10% discount for Family level members and above. Museum admission is included in the price of the workshop.)

MOVERS AND MAKERS: Family Tour and Workshop

Explore more at the Transit Museum with Movers and Makers, our monthly family workshop series! Tour select exhibitions, dive into a new transit-themed topic or museum story, and get creative together in our makerspace with hands-on art and design projects. 

Museum admission is included in the price of the workshop.

Second Sunday of each month, 2pm-3:30pm

JUNIOR CONDUCTORS: School Holiday Day Camp

School’s out, adventure’s in! At this action-packed day camp inside our historic subway station museum, campers explore the world of transportation through hands-on activities like artmaking, engineering challenges, scavenger hunts, and science experiments. With small group sizes, each camper gets personalized support from camp facilitators and plenty of opportunities to build lasting friendships with fellow junior conductors.

CREATION STATION 

All aboard for interactive fun! Join us each month for transit-themed activities that rotate through art, science and technology, and the humanities. Past workshops have included writing poetry, designing custom MetroCards, and crafting colorful mosaics—there’s always something new to create and explore. (Times and activities are subject to change without notice.)

SUBWAY SIMULATOR VIDEO GAME 

Experience the subway like never before! Try your hand at being a train operator with our immersive train simulator video game, powered by OpenBVE.

PLANNING YOUR VISIT 

Please note that eating and drinking are not allowed inside the Museum. Weather permitting, we encourage you to enjoy nearby outdoor spots like Columbus Park, the Korean War Veterans Plaza, or Cadman Plaza Park for a snack or meal. 

The Museum does not offer a coat or bag check, and we are unable to store backpacks or personal items during your visit.

ACCESSIBILITY 

The Transit Museum is wheelchair accessible via a lift with a total weight limit of 450 pounds. The lift accommodates one person at a time and moves slowly, so we recommend planning for a brief wait. If you will need to use the lift, please let us know in advance so we can best assist you.

What better way to start your visit to the Transit Museum than by taking the train? We’re located at 99 Schermerhorn Street in Brooklyn—just a short distance from the following subway stations: 
Borough Hall: 2/3 and 4/5 lines (0.2 miles)   
Jay Street–MetroTech: A/C, F, and R lines (0.2 miles)   
Hoyt–Schermerhorn: A/C, and G lines (0.2 miles)
